All learning occurs through one or more of the senses - sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste, kinaesthetic. Students at Wangee Park depend very much on the stimulation of their senses to assist them with their learning in the educational setting. Understanding becomes much more of a reality when students can experience a combination of feeling, seeing, and hearing when they are in the learning situation. Smelling is a very powerful learning tool and when used in conjunction with specific learning can evoke memories and reminders of those past experiences. All learning programs at Wangee Park place an emphasis on the arousal and development of the senses to facilitate learning.

A Sensory focus is incorporated into individual and class programs at Wangee Park School. The planning for this takes into account student's strengths and is then designed to support their learning priorities. Wangee Park School has an Interactive Multi Sensory Room, an Interactive Sensory Garden, and well resourced classrooms to support this focus on sensory learning. Kate Bishop's specially designed "Sensory Frames" a "Sensory Play Table" and "Surprise Boxes" are just some of the additional resources that provide motivational learning experiences for the students of Wangee Park School. |
